I was out the flea market this past weekend and ran into a strange Nintendo cartridge. The guy who sold it to me just said that it had 64 games included on it. I figured it was worth a shot to see what it was all about. I brought the game home and just like he said, it actually had 64 different games on it.
There were a few oddities about this one though. Instead of games being called Super Mario Bros. they were titled Fast Bros. Games like Donkey Kong were named King Kong and a few others were different too. The gameplay seemed nearly identical from what I could tell.
I played through some of the games including the Super Mario Bros (Fast Bros II), Donkey Kong (King Kong I), Nuts & Milk, and Macross. Macross actually had a japanese title screen which was pretty cool and the game was a side scrolling shooter. It's a pretty cool cartridge if you're looking to mess around with some games that you've probably never even heard of. So what is the deal with a cartridge like this? I researched a bit and found out what it really is.
Sometimes with cartridges like this one, they are just pirated games placed on one cartridge. Often the copyright information will be altered, title screens, and occasionally character sprites will be slightly different. Generally, cartridges like these are not worth a ton ($20-$30). They're worth picking up if you want to play a bunch of games for cheap, but if you're looking for a valuable cartridge this isn't it. For me, it was definitely worth picking up because I got to play Nuts & Milk - A game my podcast co-host talked about a while back. Good stuff!
